High Speed Photo Scanner For Use With Mac Iphoto Software
I would strongly recommend staying away from Epson. I am stuck with an Epson R340 which had very high reviews when I was looking at printers. Unfortunately no matter what I do I can't get the Epson to print what I see on the screen in either Photoshop or IPhoto.
The pictures look great on the screen but they come out very dark with a reddish tinge on the printer. Repeated requests for help from Epson have gone unanswered. I have looked on the web and this is a common problem for Epson but no one else had heard from Epson with a fix. A few folks claim to have a work around for the issue but I have not seen one that works. The bottom line is I want a printer that works like my Mac, perfect out of the box and Epson does not deliver.
Even though I have used Epson printers exclusively, for a long time, I will have to agree, somewhat, with RTF3. I have consistently had real problems trying to get the fine image I see on screen. The times when I thought I had it figured out, seemed to be answered by using the recommended Epson paper. If I used an off brand, terrible results would occur. I now have a stylus 1400, which, by the way, is NOT listed as a supported model for the Gutenprint driver software.so I guess I'm outta luck trying that. Yes, I agree, it is way to difficult to get great prints of photos out of the Epson, however, that does not make sense, given the fact that Epson is a top selling brand. Are all the thousands of customers unhappy with their Epson printer?
Are all these issues dependant on the driver? Or the paper? Word for mac.
Or the calibration of the monitor? Or all that stuff? There should be a consise help page that describes how to print what you see on the screen. It should be simple, to the point, and step by step. Thanks, but those are pretty basic articles that don't address getting quality image reproduction. The article I would like to see would have more specific, tried and true, instructions, that guides through the maze of settings, such as; printer management vs.
Software managment, color management, Perceptual vs, the other choices, and on and on the list goes. I have easily spent hours trying the different options, without actually coming to a defined conclusion on what is going to provide me with the optimum print. Or.a good natured person with experience in this field, that likes to share. I think it might not be in the scope of the Epson to provide instruction for how to print in all the various applicatons. In Photoshop, for example, it would be more appropriate to avoid using the printer's management, and go with Adobe's profile, but there are many options within that propect, and that's where experienced instruction is needed. In the end, I think it's going to be a matter of finding a text book on the subject. Then a bit of testing.

It should be possible. Unlike the other poster, I think you can get good prints from Epson devices.and I look forward to that day. I have recently upgraded to CS3, which rocks, and I have taken a couple of classes.

I have a book titled CS3 Classroom in a book. It comes with a companion cd and is really a great tool. It talks extensively about the issues you are dealing with. I do not have a post script printer and this is required to truly utilize these settings. But one thing that helps me a ton, is the view of the simulated paper.
